    2017 AFS Birmingham District Chapter Scholarship

    In order to qualify for the scholarship, the applicant must be attending or planning to attend a university in the Birmingham District of the AFS, which covers Mississippi, Alabama, and west Georgia, in order to pursue a career in the foundry industry. Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded based on the completed application, essay, and letters of reference. Please request your letter of reference  by February 15, 2017 to allow time for letters to be written and submitted. Online application and letters of reference must be received by March 1, 2017.
    All applicants must register with the FEF website in order to be eligible for the scholarship. This allows for Job Employment Opportunities by selected companies, audit trails, and meets the IRS requirements.

    Essay - Explain how your career choice relates to the foundry industry. Outline your short and long-range career objectives. Explain why you should be awarded an AFS Scholarship.

The American Foundry Society (AFS) is a non-profit association serving members of the metalcasting industry both in the United States and abroad. Through various resources, AFS provides members with advocacy coordination and efforts in Washington, D.C., ongoing technical education through its Institute, as well as the transfer of innovative research and technology to the industry. Membership is individual or corporate and is made up of three markets, including: metalcasters and producers of metal cast parts; metalcasting suppliers and casting buyers/original equipment manufacturers (OEM’s). Student membership is also extended to future leaders of the metalcasting industry at a nominal cost.
